Abandoned civilization
The nature remains
In some places of the world one can observe the decay of human civilization. The often slow but steady decay of houses, boats or roads cannot be stopped. Nature, its vegetation and seasons manage in quiet and unobtrusive work to make these symbols of human civilization disappear. As if it would simply take back space and material. Sometimes whimsical, often beautiful contrasts are created in the clash of the two worlds and, despite the signs of dissolution, an extraordinary expression of aesthetics that seems to contradict the common sense of beauty.
In addition to a definition of beauty that contradicts the norm, other questions emerge: What would a world without human civilization look like? What remains of our civilization? and is beauty ephemeral?
Robin Cruise deals with the timeless theme of transience, placing various motifs of remnants of former civilization at the center of the images in this series.
